When I started playing League of Legends, It was a fairly new game, at least in terms of other games in the genre at the time. You had DOTA, but that was about it. I began playing League about 3 years ago, back when Ziggs was a brand new champion. Yay for Yordel's. Back when League was faster not because champions were faster, but because they were slower. The state of the competitive gave right now is focused on super high mobility champions who can fly from one lane to the other so fast that after a tower drops on either side, split pushing becomes almost impossible without playing an equally high mobility champion.
I don't think that the power high mobility champions have brought to the game were entirely intentional, mobility champions are in themselves difficult to master. Its why I prefer support or bursty Mid champions,
white the bursty mid champs arn't as mobile usually, being able to blow someone up for getting out of place on a mobility champ is that much more rewarding.
The same goes for those great support picks against mobile ADC champions. Blitz Grabs, Leona Swords, Thresh Hooks, and of course Sona Crescendo's. But with the state of the game where it is, the traditional support/tanky jungle/ beefy top lane are being out shined by those champions that can move without alot of penalty.
In closing, I love League, I wouldn't still be playing it if I didn't, but with the current state of the game, over half of the champion roster gets to sit around in limbo waiting for the ability to be as game changing as they were 3 years ago. With a good 10 Champions still living on the ban list every ranked game do to those same balancing issues.
